Recently, Linda Harvey of Mission America, spoke out against Alan Chambers of Exodus International. Her comments are mocked by the left-wing, pro-homosexual activist website, Right Wing Watch. But I believe that she has nailed the right perspective regarding the reality of homosexuality being a sin as any sin listed in God’s Word.
The group’s president (Exodus International), Alan Chambers, has been under a firestorm of criticism lately because of several statements he has made lately that reflect poorly on his understanding of the basics of Christian faith.
For one, Chambers has said he doesn’t believe a person can change his or her so-called sexual orientation. Now, there’s not anything like this invented term called “sexual orientation” in Scripture in the first place, but then he also says that he still struggles himself with sexual feelings for other males. This shows very poor judgment as the leader of this ministry to, first of all, be experiencing this and secondly, to announce it to the whole world.
Of course a person can leave homosexuality; there are thousands of people who have done it and God’s word clearly states that he can deliver us from sin. And the proud, open sinner who is publicly proclaiming it as good, in defiance of God’s word? It is highly questionable that such a person is saved.
We would not be making this exception for well-adjusted adulterers would we? How about a compassionate pedophile? What about incest like two brothers involved in homosexuality? Why not just defy God’s word on this?
This is plain old rebellion and worship of self and our own impulses, not the worship of our Creator and Savior. Please join me in praying for Alan Chambers and Exodus……
This is the one point that the left cannot grasp and if they do, simply refuse to accept. Those who do get it, simply resort to name calling (I wouldn’t dare put here the names these “moral” folks have called both me and Jesus just in the last 4 days), and mockery.
BUT, God’s Word clearly delineates in both the Old and New Covenants what SIN is; what is transgression of God’s Law. And, with no desire to hurt anyone and certainly NOT in a spirit of hatefulness, I have to tell you that “homosexuality”, “lying with a man as with a woman”, “…vile passions. ..women exchanging the natural use for what is AGAINST NATURE, and likewise the men……” and on and on, are clearly listed in the Bible as SIN. That’s why we oppose it.
God’s Word even carries “homosexuality” within sin “LISTS”. In the listing with homosexuality are other sins and those who do them; fornicators, idolators, adulterers, (effeminate homosexuals, sodomites), thieves, covetous, drunkards, revilers, extortioners….” You will notice that 5 of those sins in this one sin list alone, are sins in violation of the BIG TEN; the Ten Commandments! So, homosexuality is listed in the same list of sins, IN GOD’S EYES (remember, “all Scripture is GOD BREATHED OUT….” 2 Tim. 3:16) as these other sins.
So, Linda’s argument at the end of her statement is perfectly logical. To turn a blind eye from God’s Word about homosexuality and to OK it, would be the same as okaying thievery, idolatry, or adultery! In fact, homosexuality is a form of idolatry, the worst kind. It is the worship of self over God’s rule of order. These verses, if anything, clearly distinguish God’s dislike for this particular sin because of how it deviates from His established NATURAL order. No matter how much someone may “love” another, all must admit that it an unnatural act.
So, Christians like Linda, see it as sin. Because the Bible does. As sin, it can be forgiven. You can be delivered from it’s grasp. Now, I know this is NOT the PC view of the pro-homosexual world. They see it as God made them that way. They are born with it. They keep praying for the discovery of the “gay gene”. But there will be no “gay gene” any more than there is an “adultery gene” or a “idolatry gene”. That’s our view.
Is it different than the view of the homosexual world? Of course. Is that difference any reason to hate one another? No. There’s no getting that thought across to the homosexuals that oppose us. They accuse of us hate and intolerance. But soon, the silliness of the hypocrisy of that line of attack will surely soon become evident to all. WE are the intolerant ones? WE are the haters? Have you read the comments on my Twitter account lately? I’ve NEVER spoken to anyone even in my meanest days the way I’ve been blasted of late by these tolerant, lovers of all.
But again, Scriptures can help us understand the power behind these differences of opinion and the unreasonableness of discussion with those who are pro-homosexual. In Romans One we read that those given over to the passions of sexual sin such as this, are “darkened in their understanding…..” and have become, “hardened in their hearts……” That’s why we cannot reason with or have a civil discussion with them about this matter. Sometimes, the UNDERSTANDING is darkened. The ability to understand is just gone. And the heart is hard.
I pray that our gay friends will hear the seriousness of these Scriptures and understand, if possible, the urgency of their being yielded to their passions. God longs to forgive, but if they stay in their practice too long, they may become darkened and hardened to the point of it being eternally too late.
And for the folks who mock Christians, the Bible and the Church…….And worse yet, mock God and call my precious Jesus so many vile names……We can only pray. Stand strong on our moral convictions, be clear in our communication, and pray for the them as you’d hope that they would pray for you if our roles were reversed.
